1. Use your favorite search engine: Many people publish their private or business cell phone numbers on their website, mainly for business purposes. You can take advantage of this situation by simply entering the cell phone number you want to lookup into your favorite search engine. Use quotation marks to improve the quality of the results (e.g. "555-555- 1234"). Search engines scan every website and if the owner of the cell phone number has published his number, the search engine will find it.

2. If the first step didn't help you find the cell phone number you want to lookup, you may want to look into social networking sites like MySpace or Facebook. Many people publish their private information - including their cell number - on these websites without even thinking about it. You may need to sign up to these sites to perform a search, but fortunately, it is simple and free.

3. If you haven't been able to find the number on social networking sites either, there's another method you could try: Voluntary reverse cell phone directories. However, as its name implies, these directories are voluntary. The owner of the cell phone would have had to sign up and enter his number to be listed in these directories. You can do a free search to see if the number you are looking for is listed before having to pay a very small fee. If it is listed, you will not only get the owner's name, but also his current address, any household members, his address history, and more.
